  7. How to Use Intermittent...

We’ve all been there. You return from a blissful vacation, feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. But as you step on the scales, the numbers make you do a double-take. The extra pounds you’ve gained during your trip are staring right back at you. The good news? You don’t need to dive into the latest fad diet to shed that vacation weight. Let’s explore how intermittent fasting can be your secret weapon to get back on track.

Vacations are often a time of indulgence. Dinners out, treats, and sweets become the norm, even when we know they aren’t the healthiest choices. “Oh well,” we say, “I’m on vacation!” Fast forward to your return home, and instead of feeling refreshed, you’re left feeling bloated, sluggish, and sometimes even a little down because of those extra pounds that have seemingly appeared overnight.

After a vacation, most of us want to feel revitalized and motivated for the months ahead. We want to shed that vacation weight quickly, but the quest for an effective and healthy solution can be challenging.

In the past, like many, I fell victim to the allure of trendy diets, only to end up feeling like a failure. As a doctor, I knew better, but the struggle was real. It often feels like our metabolism slows down with age, leaving us wondering if there’s any point in trying to maintain a healthy weight.

The good news is that there is a better way to lose weight and keep it off for life, and it’s not just another fad diet. This method has been around since the dawn of humanity—it’s in our DNA. I’m talking about fasting. It’s that simple. No special recipes, no tedious diet plans. Just periods of not eating.

Calorie-restriction diets are not only difficult to stick with but can also decrease your metabolism. This doesn’t bode well for long-term weight management because not only will you likely gain back the lost weight, but you may also end up with more pounds due to a slower metabolism.

Fasting, on the other hand, offers a different story, backed by research. It not only boosts metabolism but also increases human growth hormones, crucial for building and maintaining muscle during fasting, while reducing insulin levels—an important player in weight gain.

As I revisited old books on fasting and delved deeper into the research, I realized that fasting was the key to getting my health back on track and losing those stubborn pounds. After adopting a regular fasting regimen, I shed 15 pounds in less than three months. Now, I’ve maintained my ideal weight for over a year, all while enjoying the foods I love alongside healthier choices.

Fasting isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. It requires discipline and practice to find the fasting regimen that works best for you. Think of it like training for a marathon. You wouldn’t run a marathon without proper training, and the same concept applies to fasting. Start with intermittent fasting, allowing your body to adapt before progressing to longer fasts.

Incorporating intermittent fasting into your lifestyle can be a game-changer. Say goodbye to those post-vacation blues and hello to a healthier, happier you. Embrace the simplicity of fasting, and watch those vacation pounds disappear, leaving you with renewed energy and a newfound sense of confidence in your journey to lasting wellness.

Start with 8 hours fasting while you sleep and gradually increase to 16 hours, as this study recommends:
16:8 Intermittent fasting involves fasting for 16 hours a day and consuming all calories during the remaining 8 hours.
