Quick question. If your energy were a phone battery, what number would it show right now?

For many of us, the honest answer is somewhere near 12%. After all, summer was full and fun. But it was also busy, and our own needs quietly slipped to the bottom of the list. In other words, many of us are running on empty.

Now that the kids are back in school and October has arrived, it is time to plug back in. In fact, this is the perfect month to rebuild your fall self-care routine, one small habit at a time.

Personally, I have always loved October. To me, it feels like a deep breath. It is a time to get back to my roots and look back on what I have done this year. Then, I decide how I want to spend the last few months before 2027.

So, in this post, I am sharing 7 simple tips to recharge your body, mind, and skin. Better yet, each one takes little time and costs little or nothing. And at the end, I have a free gift for you: a complimentary wellness check-in call with me. However, spots are limited, so keep reading.

October is here. It’s time to slow down and recharge.

Why October Is the Best Month to Reset Your Fall Self-Care Routine

First, the timing is perfect. Summer’s chaos has settled, but the holiday rush has not started yet. In other words, October is a quiet window, and it will not stay open for long.

Second, your body is already changing with the season. As the days get shorter, many people notice shifts in their energy, sleep, focus, and even cravings. Meanwhile, cooler, drier air can leave skin feeling tight and flaky.

Finally, the habits you build now will carry you through the holidays. On the other hand, if you wait until January, you may be starting from empty.

Remember, self-care is not selfish. Instead, it is how you refill your cup, so you can keep showing up for the people you love.

Now, let’s get to the good part. To keep things simple, I have grouped the 7 tips into three parts: body, mind, and skin.

Part 1: Care for Your Body

Tip 1: Get Moving Again, With a Little Help

To begin, book a session with your personal trainer. If you do not have one, visit your local gym and ask what is new for fall. Many gyms add fresh classes and services this time of year.

For instance, you could try yoga, Pilates, strength training, or a dance class. Often, a new class brings back the spark that summer schedules dimmed.

Better yet, invite a friend to join you. Having a workout buddy makes it more fun, and it helps you both stay on track.

According to the CDC’s physical activity guidelines, most adults need about 150 minutes of moderate activity each week. At first, that may sound like a lot. However, it is only 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Even a brisk walk through the fall leaves counts!

Movement is more fun with a friend, so grab a buddy and get outside!

Action step: Book one class or session this week. Then, put it on your calendar like any other appointment.

Tip 2: Add 2 Plant-Based Meals Each Week

Next, let’s fill your plate with color. Try eating 2 or more healthy plant-based meals each week. You do not need to change everything at once. Instead, small swaps add up over time.

Luckily, fall makes this easy and delicious. Think pumpkin, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, apples, kale, and Brussels sprouts. For example, roast a tray of veggies with olive oil and herbs. Or, simmer a hearty lentil soup on a chilly night.

For the freshest produce, head to your local Farmers Market. There, fruits and veggies are often picked at their peak, so they taste better. Plus, you support the farmers in your community. To find a market near you, try the USDA Local Food Directories.

Part 2: Care for Your Mind

Tip 3: Learn Something New With a Friend

Why not have fun while you care for yourself? Taking a cooking class with a friend is self-care in two ways.

First, you get quality time with someone you love. Strong friendships are one of the best gifts we can give ourselves. Second, you learn to make fresh, healthy meals at home.

Besides, cooking can be surprisingly calming. Chopping, stirring, and tasting pull you into the present moment. In other words, it is a bit like meditation, only tastier!

Not sure where to look? Many community centers, grocery stores, and local kitchens offer low-cost fall classes. Some even focus on plant-based cooking, which pairs perfectly with Tip 2. That way, you learn new skills and eat well at the same time.

Action step: Text a friend today. Then, pick a local class that features fall foods.

Tip 4: Finally Open That Book

We all have one. It is the book on the nightstand that has waited patiently all year.

Well, this is its month. After all, cool, dark evenings practically beg for a soft blanket and a good story.

If you need ideas, BookBub has lots of great books, and some are actually free! You simply sign up and get deals in your favorite genres.

Even better, reading before bed is a lovely swap for scrolling. As a result, your mind gets a gentle place to land at the end of the day.

Not a big reader? Then, try an audiobook instead. That way, you can enjoy a great story while you walk, cook, or fold laundry.

Action step: Read for 15 minutes tonight, with your phone in another room.

Tip 5: Give Your Mind 5 Quiet Minutes a Day

Next, make time and space every day to do something special for yourself. One of the easiest ways is a relaxing guided meditation.

Thankfully, you do not need special skills or gear. Instead, all you need is a quiet spot and a few minutes. For free meditations, visit Mindful.org. There, you will find short sessions for beginners, stress relief, and better rest.

To make it stick, pair it with something you already do. For instance, meditate right after your morning coffee or just before bed.

At first, your mind may wander. That is completely normal. Simply notice it, then gently bring your focus back to your breath. Over time, those few quiet minutes can become the calmest part of your day.

Action step: Try one 5-minute guided meditation today. Afterward, notice how you feel.

Part 3: Care for Your Skin

Tip 6: Glow Up With a DIY Pumpkin Face Masque

After a long summer of sun, sweat, and sunscreen, your skin deserves some love. Fortunately, fall’s favorite ingredient can help!

Pumpkin is naturally rich in vitamins A and C. It also contains natural enzymes that gently exfoliate. That is why many people find it leaves their skin looking brighter and feeling softer.

Best of all, you can make it at home in minutes. For my simple, step-by-step recipe, see my DIY Pumpkin Face Masque blog.

Relax, breathe, and let fall’s favorite ingredient work its magic.

Action step: Grab a can of pure pumpkin on your next grocery run. Then, save 20 minutes this weekend for an at-home spa night.

Tip 7: Soak, Brush, and Shed Dry Summer Skin

Finally, let’s end with two soothing rituals.

First, take a relaxing Epsom salt bath. Simply add a cup or two of Epsom salt to warm water, then soak for 15 to 20 minutes. Many people find it helps them unwind before bed. For extra calm, add soft music or a few drops of lavender oil.

Second, get rid of dry summer skin with daily dry skin brushing. This simple habit uses a natural-bristle brush on dry skin before you shower. As a result, dull, flaky skin is gently brushed away. Here is my easy how-to guide for Dry Skin Brushing.

To start, use light, gentle strokes from your feet up toward your heart. Then, finish with a warm shower and your favorite moisturizer. Your skin will thank you!

A warm lavender soak is one of the simplest ways to unwind.

Action step: Enjoy one Epsom salt bath this week. Also, try dry brushing for 3 minutes before tomorrow’s shower.

Your Free 7-Day October Reset Plan

Feeling a little overwhelmed? That is okay. Instead of doing it all at once, try one small step each day:

  1. Monday: Book a training session or a new gym class.
  2. Tuesday: Try a 5-minute guided meditation.
  3. Wednesday: Text a friend and sign up for a cooking class.
  4. Thursday: Read for 15 minutes before bed.
  5. Friday: Shop your local Farmers Market for fall produce.
  6. Saturday: Cook a plant-based meal and enjoy a pumpkin face masque.
  7. Sunday: Relax in an Epsom salt bath, then dry brush before your shower.

By Sunday, you will have tried every tip. More importantly, you will know which ones feel best for you. So, keep those, and repeat them all month long.
